Mission Statement

To assist Minneapolis Public Schools K-8 students in reading through individual tutoring.

About Us

Youth Inc. Youth Incorporated is a trust fund designated in the will of J. Edward Meyers in 1944. He was a former board member of the Minneapolis Public Schools and a former Mayor of Minneapolis.

Funds were made available and are now administered by a board of trustees known as Youth, Inc. Tutors are paid by Youth, Inc. as an independent contract and not through Minneapolis Public Schools.

This board provides money, in amounts decided annually, to assist Minneapolis Public School students with problems related to Reading. Tutoring is done during the school year on schools grounds for a maximum of 30 hours per student.

When a school team decides that a student will benefit from the support of a tutor provided by Youth, Inc. funds and states that the student is not being supported by Special Education or Title I, a referral is made to Youth, Inc.

Once a referral is approved, tutoring begins. Tutors complete service reports and submit them to the School Social Worker for signature. The SSW sends the service reports to the Youth, Inc. coordinator (Jenny Corniea), who then forwards the reports to the secretary of Youth, Inc. for processing and payment. The money received by the tutor is reported to the IRS as income from private employment.
